Redefining Health After 40 and Finding Strength After Setbacks
Prefer audio only? Listen here!
Karen has spent over thirty years coaching women through fitness, and this first episode of Fit4Her Unplugged opens with the part of her story most coaches never mention: the eating disorder she hid while competing in fitness competitions and being seen as the picture of health, the divorce that forced her to start over in her late thirties with a few hundred dollars in her bank account, and the two years of midlife weight gain, exhaustion, and brain fog that doctor after doctor dismissed as hormone imbalance and normal aging.
She eventually found practitioners who looked at the full picture instead of just her lab results, decided hormone replacement therapy was the right call for her, and came out the other side redefining health completely. Nutrition and strength training still matter to her, but so does the environment she surrounds herself with, the people she spends time with, and her willingness to say no without guilt.
Here's what's covered:
The eating disorder Karen hid for years while everyone assumed she was one of the healthiest women in the room
Why doctor after doctor told her "you're just getting older" before she found practitioners who actually listened
The hormone replacement therapy decision that changed her sleep, recovery, and her brain fog within weeks
Starting over in her thirties after her marriage ended, rebuilding a business and a life from a few hundred dollars
Why perimenopause and menopause deserve more than "eat less, exercise more" advice
What redefining health actually looks like once weight and workouts stop being the whole picture
The midlife identity crisis that hits when your body stops feeling like your own
Why Karen believes it's never too late to rebuild, whether that's your health, a relationship, or a career change
Hormone replacement therapy isn't the right choice for every woman, but Karen is just as clear that every woman deserves the information, the support, and practitioners willing to look past "you're just getting older" until they find real answers. That search, more than any specific treatment, is what changed how she coaches and defines health today.
"I don't believe life happens to us. I believe it shapes us." - Coach Karen

More about FIT4HER Unplugged
You've spent decades building a life. Your career, family, and health…you've shown up for all of it. And somewhere in your 40s or 50s, you started noticing that what used to work no longer does. Your body feels different. Your energy isn't there. You're not sure who you are outside of the roles you've been playing. And nobody seems to be talking about all of it at once.
Fit4Her is a podcast for women in midlife who are ready to stop waiting to feel like themselves again.
Hosted by Karen Gallagher, Registered Holistic Nutritionist and Strength and Conditioning Coach with 30 years of experience, this show delivers what most health and wellness content never does: honest, whole-life guidance that covers your body, your mindset, your relationships, and your sense of purpose, without the extremes, the all-or-nothing pressure, or the advice that was never built for a woman at this stage of life.
No single corner of midlife gets left out. Fitness, hormones, identity, relationships, career, empty nest, divorce, purpose - it's all here, and it's all connected.
We'll answer questions like:
What should I eat in perimenopause and menopause?
How do I balance my hormones naturally?
How do I get my energy back in midlife?
How do I find my purpose in midlife?
How do I deal with teenagers while going through menopause?
Is it too late to change careers in my 40s or 50s?
How do I rebuild my life after divorce?
How do I stop feeling invisible as I get older?
This show is for women who are done waiting to feel better and ready to actually do something about it.
If that's you, Karen built this show for you.
