As a former competitive figure skater, I have experienced the obsession with food, endless hours of training on ice and in the gym and the added pressure to be thin. I always felt out of place as a skater because I was never the ideal height or weight. I had short, muscular thighs with a long waist, which is the complete opposite to the ideal long, lean legs with a short waist. I felt out of place from the rest of the girls and I struggled with body image issues and a mild eating disorder.
When I left for University and retired from skating I felt that I lost control of my health and my life. The transition from skating and training over 20 hours a week to no activity at all caused me to immediately gain over 20 lbs. I struggled with the fact that I gained so much weight so I did endless hours of cardio and cut calories drastically. This approach only caused me to crave sweets even more leading me to increase the duration of my workouts to burn off all those extra calories. It was an endless cycle and I was miserable. I became depressed, my self-esteem plummeted and I felt like I hit my rock bottom.
Many athletes experience this after being committed to a sport for many years of their life. Learning to transition to a healthy and “normal” lifestyle after so many years as an athlete is difficult and can take years to find that healthy balance.
When I turned 24 I decided that I needed to make changes, as I did not like how I felt or looked. As well, I didn’t want to continue my life like this. Feeling healthy and beautiful and strong provides a level of self-appreciation and confidence unlike anything else. I didn’t want to obsess anymore. So I decided to do what I did when I felt my best and to start listening to my body. I wanted to focus on fitness and nutrition as my lifestyle.
Soon after, this healthy lifestyle became my strength and passion and still is well into my 40’s. It is my true authentic self. I wanted to share it with as many people as possible. I started coaching people my formula to success and motivating them to commit to a healthy lifestyle that supports that success. This awaking happened because I was real, I was truly being me, and I wasn’t trying to be anything or anyone that I am not. I wasn’t trying to impress anyone. My goal was to inspire and share as much as myself to others so they could transform their lives.
Over the course of my journey into regaining my health and fitness, I developed a 12-week transformation program that will change your life.
